Swedish website of financial services group Nordea.
Nordea is one of the largest banks in Sweden. The Nordea group is the largest financial organisation in Northern Europe, operating in 9 countries (including Sweden). Their website was overhauled in 2009 and received a significant refresh in May 2012.
Nordea is the first bank to feature on the Beantin Index, so there’s no branch-benchmarking possible, but a score of 6.3 is very average. A newly launched/refreshed site should be getting a relatively high score, reflecting the implementation of more modern techniques in the refresh and correction of previous misses and mistakes.
The website has no stand-out high-scoring category. It had neither a really good one or really poor one. (I’m ignoring the branding section as it has too few questions in Version 1.0 of the Index to be significant). Nordea was unfortunately pretty average across the board.
The score in the web tech section was disappointing. Points were dropped for some pretty uncomplicated things such as lack of gzip compression, content caching for static resources, minifying scrips, inconsistent optimisation of images. A score of 74/100 in Google Page Speed isn’t high enough to product a “green tick” so a number of points were lost there.
Despite that, the site is actually quite responsive and appears fast to load whilst browsing. A regular page takes around 2.5 seconds.
The navigation also dropped marks due to the confusing nature of pages featuring “double tabbed” on-page navigation. On pages such as this one there are far too many navigation menus (click on “Sparformer för IPT” to see an example) which lack an overall clarity and will result in usability issues.
All in all, Nordea has a lot of potential to take this site forward and to make relatively straight forward changes that would improve it’s performance and usability in particular.
